Minimum Essential ARES® Training (MEAT)

PPARES offers an annual training that covers the basic areas of emergency communications in the Pikes Peak area.  It is highly recommended that all PPARES communicators take this training.  MEAT training covers the following items:

  • Net protocols
  • Local repeater resources
  • Traffic handling procedures
  • Operations in public service events, exercise, incidents
  • PPARES operating procedures
  • PPARES organization structure Equipment requirements

MEAT 2007 is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2007, from 0800 to 1700, to take place at the El Paso County Search And Rescue headquarters ("Rescue Base").  MEAT training has evolved a little each year from its first presentation in 2003.  This year, the training has quite a few new topics and the entire course has been revised, not only in appearance, but in the way it's presented as well.  It includes new topics that are based on the recent exercises and experiences of many of our members.
It is strongly recommended that EVERYONE take this MEAT training.  This goes for the people that have attended MEAT in the past, as well as our newest communicators.

Larry Dunn N9HSW, a mission coordinator with EPCSAR and a past EC for PPARES, has arranged for this facility.  Larry will also be offering a tour of the SAR facility and its equipment.  It should be an interesting tour for all!  The downside of this facility is that we are limited to 50 people.  Therefore we are asking everyone to RSVP if planning to attend.  If we get more than the 50 RSVPs we will have an alternate location identified for this training.

To RSVP, send an e-mail to Rob Roller, AEC for Training, at n7lv@amsat.org
