Necessary Equipment for Public Service Events

Mike Allen NØMIK, AEC Training, 5-Mar-2002

This is the beginning of public service event season, and that's upon us, as is the season of severe weather. Of course, there's also those unannounced events, called emergencies. Tonight I'd like to focus on public service events and the gear you need to support them. What pieces of gear do you think are necessary to support public service events, and why.

  • Spare batteries
  • Extra handheld radio
  • Cigarette lighter adapter
  • Orange Safety Vest
  • Snack food
  • Seasonal clothing, appropriate for expected weather
  • Wrist watch
  • Notepad, logbook for traffic
  • List of frequencies, backup frequencies, repeaters, tones to be used
  • Operations plan
  • Earphones, or headphones
  • Flashlight, batteries if event begins or ends in darkness

This list is not all inclusive, if you have any medical or personal requirements please ensure that you have the necessary provisions to take care of yourself. In addition not all events are the same and different equipment may be necessary. If in doubt take it, or contact the event coordinator for any specific guidance for the event.

Now is the time to go over your gear and make sure everything is in working order.
